The Ontario Board of Education is looking into constructing two wind turbines on school property as an alternative source of energy for the district.

The plan would be to erect two wind turbines, which stand 37 meters high and 14 feet in diameter. One would be located behind Stingel Elementary and the other behind Ontario High School.

Supt. Daryl Hall said there is an up-front cost as each wind turbine is priced at $9,500. But Hall said after five years, that money would come back in energy credit.

The school board could vote on going ahead with the project as early as next week. If approved, they could be constructed in time for next school year.
