Governor Ted Strickland (D-Ohio)  continued his Main Street Tour with a stop in Ashland Wednesday to speak to voters about the choice Ohioans face in the November election between him and Republican gubernatorial candidate, former U.S. Congressman John Kasich.

Strickland spoke to a group of supporters at the home of Sandi Briggs, president of the Ashland County Democratic Women.

Strickland discussed measures that administration has undertaken, including erasing or amending over 2,300 state rules to make them easier for businesses to follow, working to increase access to capital for small businesses, and breaking with other states by increasing, rather than cutting, investments in education.

Strickland said Ohioans want a governor who shares their values and will continue to move the state forward. Strickland said Ohio is going to have a bright future if we make the right decisions going forward by continuing to invest in our young people, continuing to make sure college is affordable, continuing to help small businesses thrive, create new jobs and hold the line on taxes.

Strickland said as governor, he's concerned about all Ohioans regardless of their economic circumstances. He said he's concerned about the poorest among us and also those that have wealth. He said he wants the wealthy to succeed as well in Ohio. Strickland said Ohioans need a governor that will bring people together.

Strickland also contrasted his record with Kasich's, highlighting Kasich's long record of supporting policies that helped Wall Street, big corporations, the very wealthy and sent Ohio jobs overseas. Strickland also cited Kasich's votes for unfair trade agreements like NAFTA.

Strickland said Kasich would not fight to create good jobs and strengthen Ohio's middle class.
