James William Casteel, age 91, resident of Jeffrey Ave., Shelby died Friday, July 23, 2010 at the Hospice House in Ashland.

Born March 25, 1919 in Morgantown, West Virginia to Jerry and Florence (Wilson) Casteel, he had been a resident of Oakland, Maryland for over 40 years moving to Shelby in 2005. James had worked in the coal mines in West Virginia and the Garrett County Community Action in Oakland, Maryland for many years. He loved airplanes, cars and trains. James was a people person who enjoyed listening to bluegrass music.

He is survived by his wife, Wahneta Pearl Casteel whom he married April 9, 1944; two sons, Billy A. (Bonnie) Casteel of Huntington, Ohio and Jerry F. Casteel of Apache Junction, Arizona; two daughters, Sharon L. (Clayton) Cool of Wadsworth, Ohio and Judith L. Casteel of Shelby; eleven grandchildren, 23 great-granchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at the Parnell Cemetery in Cuzzart, West Virginia. His grandson, Reverend Scott Casteel will officiate. Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby is assisting the family with arrangements.
